An award named after Professor Stuart Baird, the past Dean of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Faculty of Podiatric Medicine, has been awarded to Romy Baird and Rhona Price.
The Professor Baird Award has been running since 2017 and is in recognition of the best overall podiatry student at Glasgow Caledonian University.
On receiving the award, Romy Baird said:
“I am completely grateful and overwhelmed to have been chosen alongside my peer Rhona Price to receive the Professor Baird Award as top overall students in our year group. The last four years have been intense, with many unexpected hurdles and uncertainties.
It feels incredible to have my hard work recognised in this way – it truly has been the cherry on top of my honours year. I’m so looking forward to learning more about what the College can teach me as I commence my career as a self-employed podiatrist. Thank you so much for honouring me with this award – it truly means the world to me.”
Rhona Price commented:
“I am very grateful and honoured to be awarded the Professor Stuart Baird Award for the Top Overall Student alongside Romy Baird. It has been a challenging but very enjoyable 4 years studying podiatry at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Winning the Professor Stuart Baird Award will be a very proud memory of my time at university, and I am looking forward to pursing my career in podiatry.”
Professor Stuart Baird is past Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, an Emeritus Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University, and an Adjunct Professor at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia.
Prior to his retirement, Professor Baird was Professor of Podiatric Medicine at Glasgow Caledonian University and had a special interest in diabetes and its effects on the lower limb and foot. As well as being an academic, he remained clinically active within the multidisciplinary team at the Diabetic Foot Clinic, Centre for Diabetes and Metabolism, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.
Professor Baird has been in an academic role for over 40 years and has worked in several academic institutions in the UK and abroad before returning to Glasgow Caledonian University in 1995. He has delivered lectures and programmes on the management of the diabetic foot disease in India, the Middle East, Africa and the Far East. He is respected nationally and internationally in the field of diabetes and diabetic foot disease and is held in high esteem by his profession and his peers for his commitment to Podiatric Medicine in the UK and internationally.
