Our final Top Tips For New Doctors is by Dr Kaitlin Mayne, CMT2 in Geriatrics Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.
Wellbeing is more important than ever. You’ll have a lot going through your mind as you start FY1, so I would encourage you to be mindful of your own wellbeing.
My wellbeing tops tips are:
- Build in time to relax
- Plan things to look forward to outside of work
- Be kind to yourself and to others
- Look out for colleagues
Importantly, if you’re struggling, talk to someone. Many of the College Trainees Committee members in the west of Scotland are acting as informal buddies in their hospitals. We also have a number of College Tutors and Regional Advisors across the UK who you can approach for advice and support. This is also a new experience for all us, even the most experienced of doctors, so you are not alone and there is lots of support around you.
You’re ready for this, and we’ll be there to support you.
