The General Medical Council (GMC) must work hard to rebuild trust between the organisation and the medical professions, says Professor Jackie Taylor. Her call comes in response to the publication of the “Independent review of gross negligence manslaughter and culpable homicide”, which was commissioned by the GMC and is published today (Thursday 6th June).
Dr Jackie Taylor, the President-Elect of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has commented on behalf of the College following the ruling by the Court of Appeal on Monday 13th August to overturn the High Court’s decision to strike Dr Bawa-Garba off the medical register earlier this year.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has published a practical guide for trainee doctors following the recent outcome of the Supreme Court case of GMC v Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba. The case followed the tragic death of Jack Adcock, a six year old boy who tragically died of sepsis in Leicester Royal Infirmary, and ended with Dr Bawa-Garba’s subsequent erasure from the Medical Register.
