Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Updated Statement on Industrial Action

Amidst increasing concerns over patient safety, on 19 April the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges called for the UK Government to engage in arbitration to settle disputes as industrial action continues across the UK. Our trainees represent a critical part of the NHS and we understand why, under current pressures, they may choose the difficult decision to strike. Alongside other NHS staff, they have worked on the frontline of the NHS throughout the pandemic, and continue to work in challenging conditions.

Industrial action on this scale is unprecedented in the NHS, in which there is now an urgency to go forward with negotiations, beginning with preliminary talks. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow supports the Academy’s statement to bring disputes to an end and prevent further detrimental impact to delivery of timely healthcare to patients.
